Offensive Management, Proactive Leadership
There’s a sports saying, “A good defense beats a good offense anytime.” That may be true in sports. But it is not true in business and leadership.
Think about the leadership pioneers in business over the past 50 years. Even considering the last 5-10 years, what do they have in common? Leadership pioneers are offensive. What do I mean by offensive?
Proactive leadership sets a goal and goes for it. Goal setting is a priority.
Proactive leadership blazes a new path. They are not stuck in a box.
Proactive leadership creates a new way of doing things. Creative thinking is practiced.
Proactive leaders do not wait for things to come to them; they set the standard. They create a new standard and then go out and grab it.
How is your team functioning these days? Are you defensive? Waiting for things to happen and then reacting to them? Or are you taking it to the limit, pushing for things to get done, goal setting, getting creative, and constantly finding new and better ways of doing things? Being offensive means being proactive.
Being proactive is a mindset and a habit. Practice being proactive. Get your people engaged mentally and emotionally. What emotional state do they need to be in to be most productive? In order for your customers to be truly happy with your products and services, what emotional state must your internal customers (your employees) be in first? What are you doing on a daily basis to get them to that state? Are you being offensive with your team or defensive?
